The South African cabinet states that the Mathematics, Science and Technology learning areas are vital for a skilled and productive workforce, creating wealth and quality of life. Yet educators are struggling to provide meaningful learning because of multiple challenges as well as the transformation in education. ORT SA is instrumental in empowering educators to cope, thereby ensuring effective learning and teaching.

Educator Empowerment is designed in response to this nationwide need. Committed to change in the education system in South Africa, the focus is on educators and educational managers. The approach involves workshops, materials and classroom-base support, empowering educators to grasp the relevant concepts and challenging them to become life-long learners.

The Department of Education estimates that there
is a shortage  of around 1200 Science educators
and that 16000 educators need further training this area
