Brief Description of Project Progress

The current goal of the Dikhatole Digital Village Community Project is to support the growth and development of Community Based Organizations in Dikhatole. Through this, they can become fully functional organizations that can contribute significantly to breaking the cycle of poverty in their community.

The current focus has been trying to implement the recommendations from the external evaluation commissioned by the Canton de Genève conducted at the end of 2005. The evaluation recommended a shift in focus from working with many individual groups to forming overall coordinating CBOs that would represent the interests of each sector. We are continuously learning and documenting great lessons from this project that can be helpful in implementing similar projects in future. Notable results have been achieved, with more than 200 members of CBOs being trained in both technical skills and organizational development skills.

This has resulted in the broader impact of the community of Dikhatole taking the responsibility of addressing development challenges that confront them in their day-to-day lives. We are confident that the coming year will bring opportunities to consolidate the work already done for the remainder of the project
