Grassroots
responses to poverty: building skills in the community
|
“Today there is broad acceptance
of the project in the communities and trust has been built.
There is commitment at all levels and effective emerging
leadership.”

The aim of Community Development is to ensure that more people in the
community earn an income; help youth reach their potential; ensure the
inclusion of vulnerable groups (such as youth, orphaned children and
women); and empower communities to become proactive forces in tackling
poverty.
Programmes support community-based responses to poverty by:
• Providing quality skills training to individuals
• Supporting diverse community-based organisations
• Working with communities to help them mobilise and advocate around
important issues
Long term support for development
