ORT SA strives to make people employable and create employment opportunities. With this in mind, ORT SA’s Coding Clubs were established to prepare learners and youth for employment in the 21st century workforce. The ORT SA Coding Clubs equip them with aptitude, skills and a passion for ICT professions. ORT SA runs extracurricular coding clubs in township schools as well as with selected unemployed youth.

“Research shows that early grades are a critical age to develop an interest in computer programming. It also shows, that some of the strongest influences to attract girls to the computing fields is early exposure. For this reason, ORT SA clubs start in Grade 5 and aim to attract at least 70% girls,” says Ariellah Rosenberg, ORT SA’s CEO.
