ORT SA SENDS 13 HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS TO ARGENTINA FOR PAPAL YOUTH MEETING

Organised by the Pontifical Foundation, Scholas Occurrentes and World ORT, the III Youth Meeting will be taking place from 29 October – 1st November 2018 in Buenos Aires.

International education non- profit, World ORT signed a historic agreement with the Vatican’s educational organization Scholas Occurrentes which allows young people from all over the world to participate in an open, multicultural dialogue. The collaboration will draw hundreds of teenagers from diverse cultural and social backgrounds from across the globe to the conference.

The South African contingent is made up of 13 high school pupils from private and township schools ( Alexandra and Ivory Park) and 4 teachers. The event seeks to provide a platform for multicultural and inter-religious dialogue, with the aim of generating mutual respect. Ariellah Rosenberg, CEO of ORT SA said, “As we work closely with high schools in Alexandra and Ivory Park, ORT SA has identified three pupils and an accompanying teacher who would benefit tremendously from this type of experience and has raised money for their air tickets (all land arrangements are covered by the organisers). The other 10 pupils are from King David High Schools.

She added, “Students will be required to ‘pay it forward’ and become ambassadors to the programme upon returning home.  We anticipate that the programme will help them initiate productive and inspiring projects in their own communities.”

Scholas was founded by Pope Francis in August 2013, with the aim of linking technology with art and sports to promote social integration.

The four-day programme aims at bringing 400 youth ages 15-17 together from different religions and socio-economic backgrounds together to seek harmony. This is done through expressive art, presentations and discussions. See link to the information brochure of 2018 Click Link (Information on programme of 2017 Click Link)
