The Hudaco-ORT Project Prize Giving Ceremony

Uniqueness is the quality of being particularly remarkable; of being “one of a kind”. Every human being is unique – and it’s what makes us all so fascinating.

We often unintentionally consume ourselves with what is considered the norm rather than focusing on our own uniqueness. People with disabilities are the epitome of uniqueness; forming a vital part of society and reminding us to value our own strengths and weaknesses.

The Hudaco-ORT Project was centred around helping people with disabilities by facilitating their completion of the NQF level 2 New Venture Creation qualification, which teaches potential and existing entrepreneurs how to capitalise on opportunities and start and grow sustainable businesses.

On the 12th of August 2021, ORT SA management and staff hosted a ceremony for the 10 Hudaco-ORT Beneficiaries who had completed their NQF level 2 New Venture Creation qualification and handed over their SETA certificates to them.

Beneficiary Mncedisi Bengu had this to say about his experience with the project:

“First, it was a surprise. I was fairly happy and shocked at the same time, so I didn’t think I would be successful. My teacher, Sarah Malape, taught me, and she gave me an experience that I never had in my life. My teacher taught me to respect myself and other people and to be myself.”

When asked about how he felt about getting his New Venture Creation certificate, this is what he had to say:

“I feel excited, at my home, they gonna (sic) be happy for me and, ‘say wow you did it.’ ”

Beneficiary Sthembile Gumede also expressed how she felt about getting her certificate; “I am so happy, and my grandmother is happy for me, and I wish I learnt more because I like books.”

ORT SA would like to wish all the beneficiaries of the Hudaco-ORT Project well in their future endeavours. We are grateful to Hudaco for partnering with us to make a difference in people’s lives.
