Work experience programmes are the way forward: I am now a full-time Administrator.
The mission and vision of ORT SA is to educate people and ultimately make them employable. Seeing this mission accomplished is incredibly satisfying to us, as is the case with the story of Makhosazana Shandu.
She was part of the Absa and Yes for Youth programme; placed at a school as an administration assistant for a 12 month work experience programme.
She moved on from being an assistant to become a full time administrator at the same school – showing that hard work and dedication always pays off.
In her own words:
“I was placed at Nigel secondary in December 2019 I then moved to Alra Park Secondary school in June 2020 a great place to work at I enjoyed my time working in that school’s environment during the work experience programme and still do now as a staff member. I was given an opportunity by ORT SA that really brought change and growth into my life and livelihood, the opportunity opened doors for me that I could have never imagined.
These doors opened when my 12-month work experience contract ended, but then I got a full-time job at Alra Park secondary which is something that would have never happened if I had not crossed paths with ORT SA. I am very much grateful to ORT for giving me the opportunity and playing a great role in shaping my future and I will forever be indebted to the work of the organization.
A great thank you from me to ORT SA and its staff for helping me take the first step towards success.
Regards, Makhosazana Shandu.”
Congratulations Makhosazuna, and we hope to have many more success stories just like you.
