ORT SA has successfully completed the Let Kids Code project, sponsored by Astron Energy (Pty) Ltd. The project began last year in September and mainly addressed the need for ICT and STEM skills in previously disadvantaged schools and communities by bringing coding courses to learners in these schools and communities.

The project also addressed the need to empower females to be actively part of the STEM and Coding/Robotics field which saw more female teachers and learners take part in the project. The project aimed to enhance critical and problem-solving skills for both teachers and learners, the need to expand participants’ creativity and imagination when it comes to teaching and learning in the classroom through technology.

The project was run across 30 secondary and primary schools in Tsakane, Brakpan East of Johannesburg. Upon commencement of the project, teachers received laptops, micro bits, and sensors that would help them educate their learners and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for the field.

As the project has come to an end, ORT SA has recorded a successful implementation on teachers and learners with regards to the Coding/Robotics and STEM field.
